Fallout Episode Guide
Vault-Tec promised safety, comfort and a brighter future underground. It neglected to mention the behavioural experiments, frozen executives and neighbours who might attempt to murder you during your wedding reception. Presumably those details were in the terms and conditions.
This episode guide follows Fallout in release order, covering both completed seasons with short, original summaries and Skully’s Picks for the chapters that stand out most strongly. Those selections are highlights rather than a reduced viewing list. The Wasteland rewards curiosity, but rarely skipping.
Before you press play: Fallout is heavily serialised, so skipping episodes is not recommended. Mysteries, character decisions and apparently minor pieces of technology carry forward, while the Season 2 descriptions necessarily disclose the direction taken after the first-season finale.
Two complete eight-episode seasons are available on Prime Video. Season 3 is officially in production, although no release date has been announced.
Season 1 (2024) – 8 Episodes
The opening season introduces three very different journeys through post-apocalyptic California. Lucy leaves Vault 33 to rescue her father, Maximus attempts to prove himself within the Brotherhood of Steel, and a centuries-old gunslinger pursues a bounty connected to the future of the Wasteland.
Episode 1: The End
Skully’s Pick
A pre-war birthday party is interrupted by the sudden arrival of nuclear devastation, while life more than two centuries later appears remarkably civilised inside Vault 33. A marriage exchange exposes the fragility of that sheltered existence and sends Lucy MacLean on her first journey to the surface.
This is a superb introduction to the programme’s clashing tones: cheerful retrofuturism, brutal violence and a corporate smile that becomes more alarming the longer you look at it.
Episode 2: The Target
Lucy begins tracking her abducted father and quickly discovers that good manners have limited purchasing power in the Wasteland. Elsewhere, Brotherhood recruit Maximus receives an unexpected opportunity, while an escaped Enclave scientist becomes the target of several interested parties.
The episode expands the world efficiently without turning into a guided tour of recognisable game locations. Lucy’s determination remains admirable, even when almost everyone she meets considers it a dangerous misunderstanding.
Episode 3: The Head
Several competing journeys become centred upon one particularly unpleasant piece of portable evidence. Lucy’s dealings with the Ghoul offer a painful education in Wasteland survival, while Maximus struggles to maintain the identity and authority he has acquired.
The contrast between Lucy’s principles and the Ghoul’s pragmatism begins to define the series. Neither possesses the complete answer, although one of them is considerably more comfortable carrying spare ammunition.
Episode 4: The Ghouls
Skully’s Pick
Lucy is taken to an apparently abandoned supermarket where the surviving facilities are being used for some deeply questionable commerce. Her captivity reveals more about the Ghoul’s physical condition and the terrible choices required to survive for centuries.
Dark, tense and frequently grotesque, this is the episode that turns the Ghoul from an entertaining monster into one of the programme’s most complicated characters. Walton Goggins is exceptional throughout.
Episode 5: The Past
Lucy forms a cautious alliance with Maximus as they cross the ruins of Los Angeles and search for somewhere safe to recover. Their route leads towards another underground community, while Norm continues investigating inconsistencies inside Vaults 31, 32 and 33.
The pace slows slightly, giving Lucy and Maximus room to compare their radically different ideas about safety and civilisation. Underground, Norm demonstrates that looking mildly unimpressed can be a surprisingly effective detective technique.
Episode 6: The Trap
Vault 4 offers food, shelter and rituals that appear increasingly disturbing to its new visitors. Lucy suspects that the community is concealing something terrible, while Maximus discovers that hot water and comfortable clothing can complicate even the noblest mission.
Flashbacks continue Cooper Howard’s investigation of Vault-Tec before the war. The episode plays cleverly with assumptions, asking whether unfamiliar behaviour is necessarily evidence of danger.
Episode 7: The Radio
The search for the cold-fusion technology brings Lucy and Maximus back into contact with the Brotherhood and Maximus’s former squire, Thaddeus. As loyalties are tested on the surface, Norm’s investigation draws him closer to the management structure connecting the three Vaults.
This is a busy transitional chapter, but the various storylines finally begin pointing towards the same destination. It also demonstrates that power armour does not automatically grant its occupant good judgement.
Episode 8: The Beginning
Skully’s Pick
Lucy reaches Moldaver’s stronghold and prepares to rescue her father, while the Brotherhood launches an assault to recover the technology it has been pursuing. Norm enters Vault 31 in search of answers, and the Ghoul arrives with questions rooted in his life before the bombs fell.
The finale delivers major revelations without exhausting the programme’s larger mysteries. Every principal character leaves the season with a transformed understanding of the world, setting the road towards New Vegas with considerable confidence.
Season 2 (2025-2026) – 8 Episodes
Season 2 carries Lucy and the Ghoul into the Mojave Wasteland as they pursue Hank towards New Vegas. The expanding story introduces new factions, explores the struggles developing inside the Brotherhood and follows Norm’s extremely unconventional attempt to escape Vault-Tec management.
Episode 1: The Innovator
Lucy and the Ghoul follow Hank’s trail through increasingly hostile territory, where an encounter with the Great Khans leads them towards an abandoned Vault. What they find suggests that Hank’s plans involve a method of control even Vault-Tec might have considered a little intrusive.
Norm responds to his imprisonment by awakening Vault 31’s frozen executives, while problems emerge inside the neighbouring Vaults. The premiere effectively re-establishes every storyline, although it behaves more like the opening movement of a larger journey than a self-contained adventure.
Episode 2: The Golden Rule
Lucy’s decision to help an injured stranger creates another dangerous separation from the Ghoul. Maximus settles into his new position as a Brotherhood knight, only to discover that rival chapters are manoeuvring around the organisation’s captured cold-fusion technology.
Norm attempts to lead the newly awakened Vault-Tec employees towards the surface without admitting that he has absolutely no management authority. Fortunately, misplaced confidence appears to have been an essential qualification at Vault-Tec.
Episode 3: The Profligate
Lucy finds herself at the mercy of Caesar’s Legion, now divided by a struggle over who should inherit its power. The Ghoul approaches the remnants of the New California Republic for assistance, while Maximus faces a choice that tests how far his loyalty to the Brotherhood can stretch.
The episode gives the Mojave’s political landscape greater definition and allows several characters to make morally uncomfortable decisions. Nobody emerges entirely clean, which in the Wasteland is practically a hygiene policy.
Episode 4: The Demon in the Snow
Skully’s Pick
A flashback to Cooper Howard’s military service in Alaska reveals an encounter with one of the Wasteland’s most fearsome creatures. In the present, Lucy and the Ghoul reach the ruins of New Vegas, while a water shortage threatens the already unstable relationship between Vaults 32 and 33.
Maximus, Thaddeus and Dane become caught between competing Brotherhood interests. The episode balances creature spectacle with character development and gives the season’s scattered storylines a much-needed surge of momentum.
Episode 5: The Wrangler
Lucy and the Ghoul venture deeper into New Vegas while their uneasy partnership approaches breaking point. Pre-war events bring Cooper into contact with Robert House, whose calculations about the coming catastrophe place cold fusion at the centre of his plans.
Norm leads his group towards the remains of Vault-Tec headquarters and discovers evidence of another dangerous scientific programme. This is dense with mythology, but the information remains anchored to people making recognisably selfish, frightened or hopeful choices.
Episode 6: The Other Player
Lucy gains a clearer view of what Hank has been building and attempts to make him answer for his actions. The Ghoul receives unexpected help during a moment of physical vulnerability, while Maximus and Thaddeus continue following the trail towards New Vegas.
Inside the connected Vaults, resistance to the Overseers becomes harder to contain. The episode places control at the centre of every storyline, from family relationships to entire communities being managed without informed consent.
Episode 7: The Handoff
Skully’s Pick
Past and present close in upon the Lucky 38 as Cooper makes a consequential decision before the war and several rescue missions converge centuries later. Lucy begins acting against Hank’s project from within, while Maximus faces the most physically dangerous stage of his journey.
Tightly paced and unusually confident, the episode brings the season’s many moving parts together without making them feel like administrative paperwork. Even the Vault storyline develops a genuine sense of approaching crisis.
Episode 8: The Strip
Skully’s Pick
New Vegas becomes the meeting point for Lucy, Maximus, the Ghoul and the factions gathering around them. Long-awaited answers concerning Hank’s work, Cooper’s past and the struggle for the city arrive alongside several decisions that will reshape the next stage of the story.
The finale provides strong emotional resolutions while deliberately leaving the wider Wasteland on the brink of conflict. It closes personal chapters, opens several alarming new ones and confirms that winning in Fallout is usually another name for acquiring more complicated problems.
Season 3
Prime Video has officially commissioned a third season of Fallout. Production began in Los Angeles in June 2026, but a release date and final episode count have not been announced.
The Season 3 section of this guide will be added once the season has completed its run. Until then, remember the most reliable rule in the Wasteland: if Vault-Tec says something is entirely safe, begin walking in the opposite direction.
