Tru Calling Episode Guide

The first season introduces Tru Davies, a prospective medical student working the night shift at a city morgue. When a body asks for her help, Tru awakens at the beginning of the previous day and receives one chance to prevent the death.

Early episodes follow a supernatural case-of-the-week structure while gradually developing Tru’s family relationships and the mystery surrounding her ability. The later arrival of Jack Harper transforms the premise by introducing someone who understands Tru’s calling but holds a very different view of fate.

Episode 1: Pilot

After losing her expected hospital internship, Tru Davies accepts a job at the city morgue. During her first night alone, a murdered woman suddenly opens her eyes and asks for help. Tru awakens at the start of the same day and must locate the woman before the murder occurs, while also discovering what her inexplicable second chance allows her to change.

Episode 2: Putting Out Fires

Two victims of a fire arrive at the morgue and ask Tru for help. When the day restarts, she follows a firefighter into a dangerous investigation involving a suspected arson attack. Tru also begins to recognise how difficult it will be to build relationships when she can remember intimate conversations and shared experiences that are erased by a repeated day.

Episode 3: Brother’s Keeper

Harrison begins a relationship with Sarah, a married woman whose estranged husband subsequently arrives at the morgue. When the dead man asks for help, Tru learns that Harrison could be implicated in his murder. She must uncover the truth, protect her brother and prevent a killing without revealing how she obtained her knowledge.

Episode 4: Past Tense

Five unidentified bodies are brought into the morgue following a deadly bachelor party, and all five ask Tru for help. Because the victims were covered when they made their requests, Tru does not know what any of them look like. Her investigation becomes a frantic attempt to identify the men and discover what could kill an entire group before the night is over.

Episode 5: Haunted

A talented medical student dies after participating in a dangerous experiment designed to recover lost memories by temporarily stopping the heart. The case reminds Tru of the medical career she has been forced to postpone. Meanwhile, Davis reveals that he knows about her repeated days, finally giving Tru someone with whom she can discuss her ability openly.

Episode 6: Star Crossed

Two pupils from an exclusive academy die together in a car crash, creating the appearance of a tragic romance. Once the day rewinds, Tru discovers that the circumstances are considerably more complicated. Her efforts to separate the pair from danger force her to investigate the pressures, secrets and relationships hidden behind the school’s privileged exterior.

Episode 7: Morning After

Following her house-warming party, Tru awakens beside the body of her former boyfriend. She has little memory of the previous night and quickly becomes the leading suspect in his murder. When the day restarts, Tru must reconstruct her missing hours, identify the real killer and stop herself from making the same dangerous decisions again.

Episode 8: Closure

A wounded military veteran dies before undergoing risky surgery and asks Tru for help. Preventing his death may depend upon reconnecting him with the woman he left behind. At home, an upsetting call from Tru’s distant father affects Meredith, whose impulsive response brings her unexpectedly closer to Davis.

Episode 9: Murder in the Morgue

A bride is murdered shortly before her wedding, but the killer’s attempt to conceal the crime brings further violence directly into the morgue. Davis is shot and Tru is also attacked before the day rewinds. Tru attempts to save the bride, protect Davis and finally convince Harrison that her claims about reliving days are true.

Episode 10: Reunion

Tru attends her high-school reunion with Lindsay and encounters Candace, the former best friend who betrayed her and stole her prom date. When Candace is killed and asks for help, Tru must put their history aside. Unfortunately, years of resentment and a long list of possible suspects make identifying the threat particularly difficult.

Episode 11: The Longest Day

A shooting at a convenience store causes the day to restart, but Tru’s attempts to prevent it repeatedly produce a different victim. Every solution creates another fatal consequence, trapping her inside the same day again and again. To escape the cycle, Tru must stop treating the shooting as an isolated event and understand everything leading towards it.

Episode 12: Valentine

Tru, Harrison, Lindsay and Luc travel to an isolated mountain resort for Valentine’s Day. Their romantic break turns into another rescue mission when a body asks Tru for help. With a storm closing in and the group far from their usual surroundings, Tru has limited time and few resources with which to identify the danger.

Episode 13: Drop Dead Gorgeous

A beauty-pageant contestant is murdered, prompting Tru to enter the competition so she can remain close to the potential victim and suspects. While Tru negotiates rivalries behind the scenes, Davis reveals that another woman possessed the same ability before her. The discovery makes Tru’s calling far more personal than she had imagined.

Episode 14: Daddy’s Girl

Tru’s estranged father, Richard, returns with his new wife and children just as Tru is processing what she has learnt about her mother. A fresh request for help complicates the already uncomfortable family reunion. The episode also introduces Jack Harper, a mysterious man whose arrival will fundamentally change the nature of Tru’s calling.

Episode 15: The Getaway

A determined reporter notices Tru’s habit of appearing near disasters and crimes before they happen. Convinced that Tru is hiding something, she begins investigating both Tru and Davis. When the reporter is killed and asks for help, Tru must save someone who is simultaneously trying to expose her secret.

Episode 16: Two Pair

Tru is confused when a body asks for help but the day does not restart. A second request finally triggers the rewind, leaving her responsible for two apparently unrelated people. As Tru searches for a connection between them, Jack investigates Davis and uncovers information about his relationship with the Davies family.

Episode 17: Death Becomes Her

Film star Carly Anders visits the morgue while researching a role and spends time observing Tru at work. The two women develop an unexpected friendship before Carly dies in a car accident and asks for help. Tru’s repeated day places her inside a celebrity’s closely controlled life, where public appearances conceal private dangers.

Episode 18: Rear Window

A dead man arrives at the morgue with the same name as one of Tru’s female neighbours. The coincidence leads Tru into a case involving stolen identities, surveillance and uncertain motives. Determining who needs protection becomes increasingly difficult when the apparent victim and suspected criminal refuse to fit neatly into their expected roles.

Episode 19: D.O.A.

Tru initially welcomes the possibility that Jack may be another person capable of understanding her burden. When a dead doctor asks for help, however, Jack’s behaviour raises disturbing questions about his intentions. Tru discovers that sharing her ability does not mean sharing her purpose, and that Jack believes death’s original course must be protected.

Episode 20: Two Weddings and a Funeral

Lindsay’s wedding approaches, but the celebration is shattered when Harrison is murdered and brought to the morgue. After he asks for help, Tru receives another chance to save her brother. Jack remembers the original day and actively works against her, turning the rescue into a direct contest between Tru’s belief in choice and Jack’s defence of fate.

Season two begins after Tru has enjoyed two months without a request for help. She is finally moving towards medical school, but Jack’s return restarts their struggle over fate.

The shortened season introduces Tru’s fellow medical students Jensen, Avery and Tyler, together with morgue psychologist Dr Carrie Allen. Its six episodes develop some of the programme’s most ambitious ideas, particularly the possibility that reversing a death may leave traces in the revised timeline.

Production stopped after the sixth episode, leaving several important storylines unresolved.

Episode 1: The Perfect Storm

Tru begins auditing medical-school classes, apparently moving closer to the future she originally wanted. Her peaceful period ends when a harbour patrol officer dies during a rescue and asks for help. Jack reappears with his own memories of the day and is determined to ensure that the officer’s intended death still occurs.

Episode 2: Grace

A psychiatrist is murdered after attempting to help a troubled young patient. Jack manipulates the evidence so that Tru becomes the chief suspect, forcing her to continue the rescue while evading the police. The case escalates the conflict between them, demonstrating that Jack is prepared to damage Tru’s life rather than confront her directly.

Episode 3: In the Dark

Harrison arranges a surprise birthday party for Tru at the morgue, but a power failure plunges the building into darkness. A body asks for help before Tru can see who it is. When the day restarts, she knows that someone she encounters will die but has no description, identity or obvious incident from which to begin her investigation.

Episode 4: The Last Good Day

Jack is approached by Megan, a woman suffering from an incurable illness who has discovered his secret. Rather than asking him to preserve a death, she wants to use his ability to give her family one final happy day. The request forces Jack to confront the human consequences of his philosophy and reveals a more vulnerable side to him.

Episode 5: Enough

Tru’s medical-school friend Jensen is killed, but his body does not ask for help. Unwilling to accept his death, Tru persuades another victim to make the request that will restart the day. Her decision allows her to intervene, but it also breaks the established pattern of the calling and may produce consequences that even Tru cannot undo.

Episode 6: ’Twas the Night Before Christmas… Again

Christmas brings Tru, Harrison, Davis and their friends together, while another death gives Tru a final rescue to complete. Beneath the celebrations, several hidden schemes move forward. Jensen begins recalling fragments from the erased day on which he died, Davis confides in Carrie, and Jack discusses Jensen’s fate with Richard Davies.

The episode was the last one produced and therefore serves as an accidental series finale. It ends with Tru unaware of several threats surrounding her, leaving the conflict between free will and fate permanently unresolved.
