Space: Above and Beyond Episode Guide

Episode 1: Pilot

Nathan West loses his place aboard the Vesta colony mission and joins the Marines in the hope of following his girlfriend, Kylen. When an unknown alien force attacks the colonies, Nathan and his fellow recruits are sent into a rapidly escalating war.

Episode 2: The Farthest Man from Home

The USS Saratoga passes close to Tellus, one of the colonies devastated by the Chigs. Convinced that Kylen may still be alive, Nathan disobeys orders and launches an unauthorised search that places both his career and his life at risk.

Episode 3: The Dark Side of the Sun

The Wildcards are sent to secure a mining facility producing strategically important fuel. They discover that the site has been captured by Silicates, forcing Shane to confront the artificial beings responsible for the deaths of her parents.

Episode 4: Mutiny

While travelling aboard a civilian cargo vessel, the squadron discovers a group of In Vitroes being transported under appalling conditions. When the ship comes under attack, its captain decides that the manufactured humans are the most expendable cargo.

Episode 5: Ray Butts

A secretive lieutenant colonel recruits the Wildcards for a classified mission behind enemy lines. His refusal to explain the true objective creates growing distrust, particularly when the squadron realises that his personal motives may be driving the operation.

Episode 6: Eyes

The assassination of the United Nations Secretary-General creates suspicion around In Vitro military personnel. Hawkes and McQueen face compulsory loyalty testing while evidence suggests senior officials possessed advance knowledge of the alien threat to the colonies.

Episode 7: The Enemy

A Chig weapon exposes the Wildcards to a substance that intensifies their deepest fears. Trapped on a hostile planet, the squadron begins turning against itself as personal anxieties become as dangerous as the enemy surrounding them.

Episode 8: Hostile Visit

Human forces capture a Chig bomber, giving McQueen an opportunity to strike behind enemy lines. The Wildcards must learn to operate the alien craft before using it as a Trojan horse in an ambitious mission with little room for error.

Episode 9: Choice or Chance

Separated after their mission collapses, members of the 58th are captured by Silicates and subjected to psychological torture. Nathan discovers that Kylen may have survived, while Wang is pushed towards a decision that will haunt him long after the escape attempt.

Episode 10: Stay with the Dead

Nathan is recovered among the bodies of fallen Marines with a serious head injury and fragmented memories. His insistence that the rest of the Wildcards remain alive is dismissed as trauma, leaving him to reconstruct what happened before time runs out.

Episode 11: The River of Stars

The 58th becomes stranded inside a damaged transport on Christmas Day with power and oxygen disappearing. A mysterious transmission offers a possible route home, but trusting an unknown voice in enemy territory is not covered by any reassuring seasonal tradition.

Hawkes accepts a dangerous assassination mission in exchange for an honourable discharge. Wounded and alone behind enemy lines, he relives his brutal In Vitro upbringing while visions of Shane challenge his understanding of freedom, death and belonging.

Episode 13: Level of Necessity

Damphousse experiences a warning that appears to predict an imminent attack. A military investigator becomes convinced that mortal danger activates a latent psychic ability and deliberately places her in increasingly hazardous situations to test the theory.

Episode 14: Never No More

Shane encounters a former lover while several squadrons prepare for a major offensive. Reports circulate about an apparently unstoppable Chig fighter ace, but military commanders suppress the information to protect morale as another squadron receives a dangerous assignment.

Episode 15: The Angriest Angel

The alien ace continues destroying human pilots in a technologically superior fighter. After an attempt to trap it fails, McQueen prepares for a deeply personal confrontation that could restore human morale or add another name to the enemy’s growing tally.

Episode 16: Toy Soldiers

Nathan’s younger brother arrives aboard the Saratoga after joining the Marines. His enthusiasm for combat and loyalty to an inexperienced commanding officer force Nathan to confront the difference between imagined heroism and the reality he has already endured.

Episode 17: Dear Earth

Letters from home bring comfort, painful news and reminders of the lives the Wildcards left behind. Meanwhile, McQueen and Hawkes are ordered to participate in a military documentary intended to improve public attitudes towards In Vitro personnel.

Episode 18: Pearly

The Wildcards retreat across an enemy-controlled planet aboard a tank named Pearly. Its crew joins forces with a stranded British officer while Wang encounters the same Silicate model responsible for his earlier torture.

Episode 19: R & R

The exhausted squadron receives leave aboard the Bacchus, a pleasure ship offering almost every imaginable distraction. Attempts to escape the war briefly expose loneliness, damaged relationships and the difficulty of returning to normal behaviour between combat missions.

Episode 20: Stardust

Senior officers arrive aboard the Saratoga for a secret operation involving a mysterious transport. The Wildcards are assigned as escorts, but the mission becomes increasingly suspicious when the supposedly harmless cargo begins targeting their fighters.

Episode 21: Sugar Dirt

A large planetary invasion collapses when Chig forces ambush the human fleet. Strategic priorities force the Saratoga to withdraw, leaving the 58th and thousands of troops stranded without air support, reinforcements or any convincing prospect of rescue.

Episode 22: And If They Lay Us Down to Rest…

The Wildcards reach a moon near the Chig homeworld and encounter a mysterious alien being unlike the armoured soldiers they have previously fought. As humanity approaches a decisive military advantage, the Chigs unexpectedly propose peace negotiations.
