The only season moves between London in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053 as four detectives investigate the appearance of an identical body in Longharvest Lane. What initially resembles an unusually ambitious murder mystery develops into a tightly constructed story involving political power, inherited secrets and the troublesome question of whether history can ever escape itself.

Episode 1: You’re Dead Already

Detective Shahara Hasan pursues an armed young man through present-day London and discovers an unidentified body in Longharvest Lane. The same victim is encountered by detectives in three other periods, immediately giving four police investigations a shared and apparently impossible starting point.

Hasan’s investigation leads her towards the troubled teenager Elias Mannix, whose adoptive parents appear to know far more than they should. Connections begin forming between influential figures, recurring symbols and the investigations taking place generations apart. Each detective is pushed beyond normal police procedure, although Bodies has already made it clear that normal procedure is unlikely to cope with a corpse possessing such an adventurous relationship with the calendar.

Hillinghead finds his investigation turned against him as Sir Julian Harker tightens his control, while Whiteman pursues a deeply personal reckoning. Hasan uncovers evidence that the predicted catastrophe is terrifyingly real, and Maplewood is forced to reconsider which side of the future’s conflict deserves her loyalty.

Episode 6: The World Is Yours

The day around which the entire conspiracy has been constructed finally arrives, placing Hasan and Elias at the centre of an apparently predetermined disaster. In 2053, Defoe’s work reveals how the four bodies reached Longharvest Lane and turns the murder mystery into something considerably larger.

The story follows the creation of the identity and dynasty that have shaped events across the four timelines. With the apparent loop finally visible, Hasan and Maplewood search for some neglected weakness within it, because even the most elaborate temporal conspiracy can be vulnerable to the right person making an unexpected choice.
