Doctor Who: The Classic Series Episode Guide – 1974-1981
The Doctor emerges from regeneration with enormous teeth, unruly curls, pockets full of improbable objects and a scarf long enough to present its own trip hazard. Tom Baker’s arrival gives Doctor Who its most visibly alien leading man and begins the longest televised tenure of any Doctor.
This third classic episode guide covers Seasons 12–18, following the Fourth Doctor from his final UNIT adventures through journeys with Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Leela, K9, Romana and Adric. It continues the global story numbering from the preceding guides, beginning with Story 75 and ending with Story 115.
Every originally broadcast episode from this period survives. Season 17’s intended finale, Shada, was left incomplete by industrial action and never received its planned television transmission. It is included separately without an official story number, reflecting its unusual status rather than squeezing it into the sequence with a sonic screwdriver.
Before you press play: Most serials remain accessible individually, but Seasons 16 and 18 contain continuing storylines and are best watched in order. Later descriptions may disclose earlier companion changes and developments. The Fourth Doctor’s seven-season run is substantial, but it also contains some of the classic programme’s most accessible starting points.

The Doctor and Leela investigate disappearances connected to a Victorian music hall, a sinister magician and rumours of a figure called Weng-Chiang. The serial offers memorable performances and rich Gothic atmosphere, but its yellowface casting and racial stereotypes are serious flaws that have become more uncomfortable with age.
Season 15 (1977-1978) – 6 Stories
