1899 Episode Guide

The Kerberos is carrying European migrants towards New York when Captain Eyk Larsen receives coordinates apparently sent by the Prometheus, a ship missing for four months. His decision to investigate turns an already uneasy voyage into a mystery involving concealed histories, unexplained deaths and places that cannot possibly exist aboard an ocean liner.

Ignoring objections from his passengers and crew, he changes course and leads a small group aboard the apparently abandoned vessel. This is an exceptionally atmospheric opening that establishes the ensemble without revealing which of its many mysteries deserves the greatest suspicion.

Episode 2: The Boy

The sole person discovered aboard the Prometheus is brought onto the Kerberos, but the silent boy offers no explanation for what happened. Eyk experiences disturbing visions, Daniel Solace takes an unusual interest in Maura, and the shipping company sends a deeply unhelpful instruction. The episode turns uncertainty into paranoia as almost everyone begins withholding information.

Episode 3: The Fog

Deaths aboard the Kerberos increase while thick fog leaves the ship effectively stranded. Maura and Eyk return to the Prometheus in search of its logbook, Ling Yi’s past begins to emerge, and evidence raises uncomfortable questions about who can be trusted. A slower chapter, but one packed with visual clues and important character connections.

Episode 4: The Fight

A mutiny divides the ship after frightened passengers decide that the mysterious boy is responsible for their misfortune. Eyk and several of his allies are imprisoned while competing groups search the Kerberos. The language barriers are especially effective here, turning fear and partial understanding into weapons more dangerous than any conventional villain.

Episode 5: The Calling

A relentless ticking sound spreads through the ship and compels passengers to behave in a terrifyingly coordinated manner. Maura pursues answers about the boy and her father while the remaining travellers struggle to understand an event that appears impossible to stop. This is the season at its most haunting, transforming a simple sound into something genuinely nightmarish.

Episode 6: The Pyramid

Tove’s traumatic history comes sharply into focus as grief drives her towards the boy. Maura and Eyk follow Daniel into a place that should not be accessible from the ship, while Henry Singleton finally begins communicating more directly. The various personal mysteries start connecting to the larger puzzle, although every explanation arrives with several new questions attached.

Episode 7: The Storm

A violent storm threatens the surviving passengers as the physical boundaries of the Kerberos become increasingly unreliable. Daniel gives Maura an extraordinary account of their relationship, while others make desperate choices to protect the people closest to them. Emotion and revelation collide effectively here, with several character stories reaching painful turning points.

Episode 8: The Key

Maura attempts to persuade the survivors that their situation is far stranger than they realise, while Daniel alters the rules governing their world. Henry prepares to use Maura’s key, but his plan does not unfold as expected. The finale radically changes the scale of the mystery and ends with a revelation designed to launch an entirely different second season.
