Tongayi Chirisa

Tongayi Arnold Chirisa, born on 8 August 1981 in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a versatile actor and singer with a dynamic presence in both television and film. He received his early education at Lomagundi College and later pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Live Performance at AFDA, The School for the Creative Economy, in South Africa.

Chirisa’s acting career gained momentum with his portrayal of Detective Trevor Davies in the popular Zimbabwean television series Studio 263 from 2002 to 2004. This role established him as a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry.

In 2008, Chirisa expanded his international presence by starring as Man Friday in the NBC television series Crusoe, an adaptation of Daniel Defoe’s classic novel Robinson Crusoe. His performance showcased his adaptability and talent on a global platform.

Chirisa’s filmography includes notable roles such as Hekule in the South African comedy film Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past (2008), where he played a central character in this commercially successful sequel. He also appeared as the Township Priest in the biographical drama Skin (2008), which delved into the complexities of apartheid in South Africa.

In 2015, Chirisa joined the cast of The Jim Gaffigan Show, portraying Father Nicholas Ngugumbane, a recurring character that added depth to the comedy series. His versatility was further evident with guest appearances in popular television series such as American Horror Story: Asylum (2012), where he played Miles, and Sleepy Hollow (2013), taking on the role of Arthur Bernard.

Chirisa’s recent work includes voicing the character Cheetor in the film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023), contributing to the expansion of this iconic franchise. Additionally, he portrays Ciprien Grieve in the television series Mayfair Witches (2023–present), based on Anne Rice’s “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” trilogy, further solidifying his status as a dynamic actor capable of engaging with complex narratives.
