Overview:
Resident Alien is a television show that blends elements of science fiction, comedy, and drama, and is inspired by the Dark Horse comic book series created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. The plot centres around Harry Vanderspeigle, an extraterrestrial on a lethal mission, who crash lands on Earth and impersonates a doctor in a small town. He soon discovers that the residents of Patience, Colorado, are not as he had imagined. As he strives to fit in and complete his task, he finds himself progressively adopting human traits.
Despite being a somewhat grumpy and unsociable extraterrestrial with no real interest in human feelings or customs, Harry begins to form bonds with the locals the longer he stays in Patience. This includes Asta Twelvetrees, the deputy sheriff; D’Arcy Bloom, who owns the local pub; and Max Hawthorne, the son of the mayor. These connections start to transform Harry and make him rethink his mission.
Another challenge Harry faces is a group of extraterrestrials who have arrived on Earth to complete his original task. The group is under the command of the relentless and power-hungry General McCallister, who is determined to obliterate humanity.
Resident Alien combines humour, tension, and emotional depth, making it a must-watch for fans of science fiction, comedy, and drama. The series has been lauded for its funny, exciting, and touching scenes, as well as for its diverse ensemble that includes actors from both sides of the Atlantic.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I appreciated about the series:
- The characters are fleshed out and easy to relate to.
- It combines comedy, suspense and emotion effectively.
- Visually, the series is a treat.
- It keeps you on your toes with unexpected twists.
On the flip side, there were a few things I didn’t enjoy as much:
- The pacing can occasionally feel sluggish.
- Not all the humour lands.
- For some, the level of violence might be a bit much.
But overall, Resident Alien is a series I’d strongly recommend. It has the right mix of humour, suspense, and emotion that makes for a great watch.
