Overview:
Invasion begins with the aftermath of a Category 5 hurricane that devastates the small Florida town of Homestead. We meet Russel Varon, a local park ranger who works to rescue people in the aftermath of the storm. His ex-wife, Dr. Mariel Underlay, works at a local clinic where she discovers strange changes happening in some of her patients. Meanwhile, the town’s sheriff, Tom Underlay, deals with his own family drama as his daughter, Kira, goes missing.

As the residents of Homestead try to rebuild their lives after the hurricane, a strange new force begins to show itself. People in the town are exhibiting strange behavior and unexplainable changes. The characters begin to piece together that an alien force has invaded their town, taking over the bodies of the people in Homestead. The aliens are slowly replacing the human population, and it’s up to the main characters to stop them.

Sheriff Tom Underlay, who seems to be working with the aliens, becomes a major antagonist throughout the series. He has his own agenda and is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the survival of his own family, including betraying the people of Homestead. Russel and Mariel must work together to uncover the truth about the invasion and stop the aliens from taking over completely.

The show also explores the personal lives of the main characters, as they deal with their own relationships and family issues. Russel and Mariel struggle to co-parent their daughter, Jesse, and navigate their unresolved feelings for each other. Larkin, a journalist who comes to Homestead to report on the hurricane, becomes romantically involved with local bar owner Dave Groves. Their relationship is complicated by Dave’s daughter, Rose, who is struggling with the changes happening in her own body.

Invasion is a unique take on the alien invasion genre, combining elements of science fiction with a character-driven drama. The cast delivers solid performances, with standout performances from William Fichtner as the morally ambiguous Sheriff Tom Underlay and Tyler Labine as the loyal and somewhat bumbling Dave Groves. The show’s use of practical effects to depict the aliens and their transformations is impressive and adds to the overall eerie atmosphere of the series.

Unfortunately, Invasion was cancelled after one season, leaving many questions unanswered and unresolved plotlines. However, the show remains a cult favorite among fans of science-fiction television, and its legacy lives on.
