Rebecca Ferguson, born Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundström on October 19, 1983, in Stockholm, Sweden, is a celebrated actress known for her strong and resilient characters in various films and TV shows. Raised bilingual in Swedish and English, Ferguson’s interest in the performing arts was nurtured from a young age. She attended Adolf Fredrik’s Music School in Stockholm, graduating in 1999.
Before her rise to fame, Ferguson worked as a model from the age of 13 and engaged in several dance forms, including ballet, tap-dancing, jazz, street funk, and tango. She even taught Argentine tango at a dance company in Lund, Sweden. Ferguson’s acting career began with the Swedish soap opera “Nya tider” (1999–2000), where she played the upper-class girl Anna Gripenhielm. She later appeared in the Swedish-American soap “Ocean Ave.” (2002) and made her feature film debut in the horror film “Drowning Ghost” (2004).
Ferguson gained international recognition with her portrayal of Elizabeth Woodville in the BBC historical television drama “The White Queen” (2013), earning her a Golden Globe Award nomination. Her breakthrough in Hollywood came with her role as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust in “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015), receiving widespread critical acclaim. She reprised this role in subsequent “Mission: Impossible” films, including “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (2018) and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” (2023).
Her other notable roles include dual characters in the Cold War espionage thriller “Despite the Falling Snow” (2016), as well as appearances in “Florence Foster Jenkins” (2016), “The Girl on the Train” (2016), “Life” (2017), “The Snowman” (2017), and as Jenny Lind in the musical film “The Greatest Showman” (2017). In 2019, Ferguson was seen in “Doctor Sleep,” “The Kid Who Would Be King,” and “Men in Black: International.”
In 2021, she co-starred in the science fiction thriller “Reminiscence” and played Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of “Dune.” She is set to reprise this role in the sequel, “Dune: Part Two,” scheduled for release in 2024. In 2023, Ferguson starred in and served as an executive producer for the Apple TV+ science fiction series “Silo.”
On the personal front, Ferguson has two children from her relationships with Ludwig Hallberg and Rory St. Clair Gainer. She and Gainer were married at the turn of 2018 and have a residence in Richmond, southwest London.
