Julian Dana William McMahon, born on 27 July 1968 in Sydney, Australia, is an accomplished actor known for his diverse roles in both television and film. He is the son of Sir William McMahon, the 20th Prime Minister of Australia, and Lady Sonia McMahon, a socialite and fashion icon.
McMahon’s early education took place at Sydney Grammar School. He briefly pursued studies in law at the University of Sydney and economics at the University of Wollongong but found his true calling in modelling, which led him to work in major fashion capitals such as Milan, London, New York City, Rome, and Paris.
Transitioning from modelling to acting, McMahon gained prominence in Australia with his role as Ben Lucini on the soap opera Home and Away from 1990 to 1991. Seeking broader opportunities, he moved to the United States, where he secured the role of Detective John Grant in the NBC crime drama Profiler, appearing from 1996 to 2000.
In 2000, McMahon joined the cast of the supernatural drama series Charmed, portraying Cole Turner, a complex character who is both a lawyer and a demon named Belthazor. His portrayal of Cole, who becomes romantically involved with Phoebe Halliwell (played by Alyssa Milano), was well-received and remains one of his most notable roles.
Following his departure from Charmed in 2003, McMahon took on the role of Dr. Christian Troy in the FX medical drama Nip/Tuck, which aired from 2003 to 2010. His performance as the charismatic and ethically ambiguous plastic surgeon earned him critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series.
Expanding into film, McMahon portrayed Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in the Marvel superhero films Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). His portrayal of the iconic villain added a significant dimension to his film career.
In recent years, McMahon starred as Jess LaCroix in the CBS crime drama FBI: Most Wanted, leading the series from its inception in 2020 until his departure in 2022. His role as the head of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force showcased his enduring appeal in television dramas.
