Billy Postlethwaite, born William John Postlethwaite in 1989 in Shropshire, England, is a British actor known for his work across television, film, and theatre. He is the son of the late actor Pete Postlethwaite and former BBC producer Jacqueline Morrish. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the arts, Postlethwaite developed a passion for acting early on. He pursued formal training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), beginning his studies in 2008 and graduating in 2011.
Postlethwaite’s career commenced with his stage debut as Grigory in John Hodge’s play Collaborators in 2011. He further honed his theatrical skills by taking on challenging roles, including the title character in Macbeth and Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Watermill Theatre. In film, Postlethwaite has built a diverse portfolio. He played Aiden in the thriller Containment (2015) and appeared as Bill in the action-adventure film Tomb Raider (2018), a reboot of the popular video game franchise. In 2019, he featured as PCO Harvey in Sam Mendes’ World War I epic 1917, which received critical acclaim for its immersive storytelling. Most recently, in 2023, he portrayed Professor Donner in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, contributing to the continuation of the iconic adventure series.
